Got awful pain in upper abdomen after eating fatty foods. Doc thinks its gal bladder stones , has anybody had this one ?

Stop consuming fatty foods. Gallstones develop in many people without causing symptoms. The chance of symptoms or complications from gallstones is about 20%. Nearly all patients (99%) who have gallbladder surgery do not have their symptoms return.

  2. indeed and i was rushed into hospital with it, and ended up having surgery, seek medical help soon as you can.

these days if you have to have surgery they do key hole surgery, making a number of small incisions, and its painless, as you are out of it, however the pain after was indescribable, but it does go with enough pain relief and a few days rest

  3. I had an emergency operation for gall bladder removal 18 months ago after a really bad bout of pancreatitis. The surgeon performed keyhole surgery – just three small incisions. I had no pain after the surgery, and have had no side effects from the operation whatsoever, apart from the lack of pain!

  4. Yes, quite some years ago – I still have the stone in a little container given to me after the operation. I have a scar about 7ins long. The operation went well just a couple of times needed injection in the butt for pain. I was doing gardening before a week was out and the wound healed up nicely. I thought I would be restricted in what I could eat afterwards but I can eat everything. Good luck.

  6. Had my gallbladder out 5 weeks ago, and I feel fantastic!

In July last year, I suddenly had this terrible pain in my upper right quadrant, with pain all across the back, about where the shoulder blades are. It was diagnoses as gallstones. I went on a (virtually) fat-free diet, and that helped enormously with the pain. I also lost 35lbs in 4 months! I cut out the following:

oils, butter/margarine, cream, (I only had SKIMMED milk)
    curries, all creamy sauces
    nuts
    eggs
cheese, apart from very low fat cottage cheese
    cakes, biscuits, chocolate, puddings
    pies, all pastry products

The surgery was done by keyhole procedure. It took 2 1/2 hours (instead of the usual 50 minutes) as I had so many stones! I was home 3 hours after the operation. I was told not to lift anything for 48 hours (not even a kettle) and then started getting back to normal, gradually. I was advised not to drive for 2 or 3 weeks. I stayed on a fat-free diet for 2 weeks afterwards, but now I can eat whatever I like (although I’m still being sensible as I want to lose more weight)

Have the operation, if it’s suggested to you. You’ll feel SO much better!
