(commenting on another question previously asked) Should bathroom accomodations be made for transsexuals?
If you were a transsexual and you didn’t "pass" so well, per se, but you still have a strong identity towards the gender you choose to present as, and as such, wish to use the bathroom that corresponds to that gender..do you think it would be easier to have unisex bathrooms made available in public buildings for this purpose? That way the transsexual person doesn’t have to be harassed about "walking into the wrong bathroom". I myself am a female to male transsexual, and before my facial hair started appearing, I don’t know HOW many times I got told by women that I was in the WRONG bathroom. (now I just use the men’s) But..this would also be useful to people who would like a little privacy as well. Say for example, people with colostomy bags, urostomy bags, people who wear adult diapers for incontinence, ect… what do you all think?
You all are saying this is impractical, however if you add in the other people that have medical reasons for needing a private bathroom as well, it becomes NOT so impractical.
Unisex bathrooms work in other countries why not here in the USA. It really would not cost that much to change from having a men’s & a women’s restroom on each floor of most office buildings to having a unisex bathroom at least on every other floor. We don’t have to have separate restrooms just for gender different persons. We would just like to be able to use a restroom without being in danger.
Most places dont have the time or resources to cater to every made up gender out there. Just use one or the other.

Some places have so called "family bathrooms" originally intended for the parent with several small children or the parent out with a child of the opposite sex. I don’t see why that restroom couldn’t be used by the transexual as well. In fact, I think that’s a really good argument for having more of that kind of bathroom in public places. Is there a petition we can sign?

yes i dont want them in my crapper and i dont want a guy in my daughters bathroom even if he was cut off. he was born a man and has a mans strength i had a transsexual that lived around the corner and he wanted to be a lesbian had testicles sawed off and became sickly afterwards but they should not be allowed in a mens room or womans room.

I think you should go to the bathroom that is designated for the gender you are, right now. If you’re a man who had a sex change, and now you’ve got female parts…use the women’s room. If you’re the opposite…use the mens room, and let other people eventually become desensitized to it.
The problem with creating a third bathroom is that there aren’t enough transexuals to make it worth the money to build and maintain them.
Bastard, just for the record…if a man has his testicles removed and now has female parts…believe me, he doesn’t want your daughter in any way. He wants to be LIKE her…not WITH her.

that’s an extremely interesting question. it would be a nice gesture to offer a service such as you described, but i don’t think it would be possible unless there was a very high demand for them. For one thing, i’m sure there’s not too many places that would be willing to finance additional restrooms for that purpose unless requird by law. i definintely see your point, though.

Beyond a certain point accommodation becomes unreasonable. I sympathize with your situation, but transsexuals make up less than 1/10th of 1% of the population. Providing non-sexed bathrooms in public buildings would cost billions of dollars. There simply isn’t enough need to justify a policy like the one you suggest.

No. There are a tiny percent of transsexuals and accommodating them would be impractical to say the least.

I think unisex bathrooms are a very good idea. There are people also that don’t conform to gender roles. There is no "right" restroom for them.Unisex restrooms provide a place for everyone.
