Seniors: How do you feel about the extreme availibility of information on t.v. commercials today?
admin on September 26th, 2009
You know, the ads for male enhancement, incontinence issues, colonoscopies, feminine hygeine products, birth control, erectile disfunction medications, intimate lubricants, etc. Are you glad that information is out there for those who need it or do you feel that some issues just ought to be discussed in private?
Well, let’s just say I blushed while reading your question!

I hate, it is embarrassing when you are watching t.v. with your young grand kids. This should be a private thing between you and your Dr.

I don’t mind,Just wish they would show them after 9 at night when the kids are in bed, nothing like a child walking around singing viva Viagra

Those commercials disgust me to no end. I am not amused at how the invasion of our privacy is all done for the sake of the almighty dollar. Gee, is nothing sacred anymore? I can still remember the commercials from the 50’s & 60’s & they sure weren’t what we’re seeing now. Do you remember a while back, when the mother & daughter were having a talk & the daughter asked her mother what she did for that "not so fresh feeling." The mother then tells her daughter about a feminine hygiene product. Yah, right!

I think it would be embarrassing for anybody watching TV in mixed company. Marketing can use other avenues as far as I am concerned. I am 63.

Comet Girl, I hate those "intimate" commercials. I just change the channel when they come on. If they have to advertise why not be discreet like in the old days. I hate the underwear commercials too along with the erectile dysfunction ones.

I’m not a senior but….My mom told me those things( maxi pads and hygene products, as well as condoms and anything else deemed personal and private or intimate) used to be sold in a paper bag years ago. I’m not sure if being slapped in the face with it everytime you turn on the tv is much of an improvement.

I’m not a senior but I’m livid at some of the stuff you see on TV. A new show coming out (swingers) is just crazy. Funny I remember my grandparents talking about how bad TV is and then my parents, and now ME lol I feel so old

I’m not at all impressed………. we’re being exposed to a lot more than we care to know or even see.

Some people are too timid to see a doctor about those problems. Maybe it is helpful to them, though the rest of us hate it.

I feel it has no business on the public airways. Last night I saw a commercial for a condom with a tickler type thing on the end of it. It was on after 10 p.m., but I was shocked. I thought I beyond shocking at my age. They are getting worse and worse. I’m glad I was alone!

Some of the commercials are rather funny. I love the ones with "smiling Bob". But I do think it would be better to run these ads after 9 or 10 p.m. Not only do parents not want to explain some of these "conditions" to their children, but no one wants to hear talk of stool softeners or hemorrhoid ointment during their dinner time.

most of the time when commericals come on I take a break go to the bathroom or get a snack also take off my glasses to give my nose a break. So I miss most of them.

I hate them with all their personal information. One of the worst, in my opinion, is the Victoria Secret commercials. Many moms would go crazy if their young son were reading girlie magazines, and yet it’s ok to show women in provocative poses in their underware?!? It’s all just another example of pushing sex on the public. It’s no wonder the morals of this country and the world are decayed!

Drug companies are pandering to the public.
You tell the doctor what medication you want rather than let
the expert make a recommendation.
Most people i know use TIVO and don’t watch commercials.
I don’t have TIVO. – What I don’t want to hear rolls right off.
I’d hate to miss commercials altogether because some are quite clever.

The male enhancement commercials don’t bother me. They are written in such a way that young children won’t ”get it”. The feminine hygeine ones bother me a little though. They get a little to graphic.

You forgot the hemorrhoid creme ads! Nothing is unmentionable these days. I could do without commercials altogether.

Way too much, causes commercial overload and I tend to mute them out. We should not have to explain these items to kids and grandkids .

I just ignore those commercials. Then they give out all the "warning" signs of the after effects. Makes you not interested in them.

When I was a child I was uninformed. I am happy my grandchildren know some of our cares and concerns.

I think it’s all tacky.

Too much information … but now that I record everything I like, I seldom see ads. There is a way around everything but death…and taxes.

Im not elderly…but I know my grandmother gets so disturbed by those commercials…she considers them very inappropriate for television advertisements

Yes ..in private . Does anybody listen to that ? I don’t . That’s TV for you ..

I find it gross. They even show some of these on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. Ok, yea CN (Cartoon Network) has Adult Swim, but thats at like 9ish or 10ish a night. Why would kids need Viagra? I don’t remember them showing them when I was a kid & that was a few years ago at least, no, seriously I’m 18. I’m talking late 90s. I mean there were a few don’t get me wrong, but every time I turn around now I see something on tv for herpes or Viagra or something.
Ok, yea people need to know these things are out there, but there should be a diffrent way. Theres the internet…*shrugs*
or the docs
